EMDR Therapy For Trauma
Difficult or traumatic events or situations undermine our sense of who we are. Even the loss of job or relationship can leave us feeling like we’ve been knocked off our feet, undermining our sense of competence and confidence.
People often struggle with painful memories and physical sensations that can have an enduring nature and have a negative impact in many areas of life & relationships. Any person who has had traumatic experiences can develop a persistent sense that the world around them isn’t safe.
The effects of trauma can lie dormant resurfacing months or years later and in ways you may not be even be aware of. It can arise when you least expect. Often, we don’t realize the connection between our present reactions such as avoidance, fear, anxiety, depression or anger with people, places and situations, even reacting with anxiety/panic attacks and anger that may seem disproportionate to a situation.
EMDR
EYE MOVEMENT DESENSITIZATION AND REPROCESSING. (EMDR) is one of the most researched therapies and has been proven to be very effective in the treatment of a number of things including PTSD. It is also effective for working with a variety of common issues including (but not limited to):
- Healing From Many Different Types Of Abuse
- Finding Peace After Experiencing An Accident
- Grieving The Loss Of A Loved One
- Building Skills To Overcome Anxiety & Depression
- Improving Self Esteem, Self Worth, And Confidence
Brainspotting (BSP)
BRAINSPOTTING (BSP) is a treatment that was discovered purely by accident by David Grand, PhD who found that where you look affects how you feel. With his discovery combined with decades of practice and evidence, therapists are able to help clients, through a highly attuned process, accessing where distressing memories, emotions, thoughts, and beliefs are held in the mid-brain and the body. Through this therapy, people can process and release difficult memories, experiences and even negative beliefs about themselves.
This treatment is ‘brain-body’ based and is a deeply relational therapy with the therapist especially attuned to the client’s processing & healing.
Flash Technique (FT)
Flash Technique (FT) is a recently developed therapeutic intervention for reducing the disturbance associated with traumatic or other distressing memories. Unlike many conventional trauma therapy interventions, FT is a minimally intrusive option that does not require you to consciously engage with the traumatic memory. This allows people to process traumatic memories without feeling distress.
FT can help children and adults of all ages. It is useful in a wide variety of presenting complaints including anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, mild and severe dissociation, depression and more.
You deserve to live your life to the fullest!
When we allow the opportunity for healing to occur, we develop new awareness of how past events are impacting our daily life – even restricting our ability to make sound choices & decisions.
With EMDR, Brainspotting, or Flash Technique you will notice a new sense of calm & freedom as you uncover a wider range of paths and options in your life. You can really experience living your life more authentically and fully!
When difficult events are resolved with EMDR or Brainspotting, the memories are not erased – they just no longer carry the mental, physical and emotional charge they used to. Old and imbedded beliefs about yourself can be replaced with a positive reality. The memories of past events will no longer hinder your personal or professional life.
I Know it's hard. That's why I'm here for you.
At times, my clients don’t want to talk about traumatic/difficult events and memories – Some things are too emotionally loaded or scary to bring up. Shame often becomes attached with an event and it can seem like too much to face or share.
It’s Okay.
The therapies I provide do not require you to talk about the event. Strange as it may seem, you can process and fully heal without sharing the difficult details.
