Let’s start here. All couples dating, married, gay, straight – we are all humans and humans are wired for relationships. Couples who want to better their relationship can benefit from couples counseling. The most effective modality of therapy to rise to the task of bringing couples closer and more deeply connected year after year is based on attachment theory. It’s called Emotionally Focused Therapy, or EFT. I am trained and well practiced in this method because I’ve seen it work wonders for couples of all different backgrounds and with varying degrees of distress. If you are fighting or wanting to heal from broken trust, or if you’re overall pretty happy and just want to make good things even better, EFT will help.
Emotionally Focus Therapy (EFT)
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) helps address the core questions we often ask ourselves about our most important relationship: “Do I matter deeply to my partner? Will he/she be there for me when I need them most? Do I feel safe and secure enough in this relationship to be my full and authentic self?”
These questions are typically at the root of what couples fight about: the emotional bond and security in their relationship. When we fear that the answer to one of the above questions may be “no,” it can cause us to feel isolated and alone, and sometimes as though we are fighting for survival itself.
EFT – a highly researched, effective, and evidence-based therapy that focuses on the emotional bond between partners, presuming that most relational problems arise from a disruption in this bond. I help partners learn not only to be more open and trusting with each other, but also to reach out for, and listen to one another more effectively.
As we work together, you will learn to understand the negative cycle you and your partner get caught up in that hasn’t been working and leaves you feeling stuck. We will work to create a relationship that does work – where each of you feel heard and understood.
You will learn how to reduce reactivity, avoid pushing hot buttons and instead, be able to respond (and be responded to) in a way that turns every possible conflict into an opportunity for deeper connection. Instead of turning away from each other, you’ll be turning toward one another.
You deserve to live your life to the fullest!
My couples often express feeling hopeful by the end of our first session.
EFT has been shown to be very effective in all kinds of relationships including family relationships & same-sex relationships.
I Know it's hard. That's why I'm here for you.
Some people aren’t sure couples counseling will work. Or that some part of their situation will make it work too little or too slow. This outlook will turn around quickly once we start. If you both want to be happy, and make your relationship one you want to be in… we can do this.
I won’t be picking a side, we won’t be battling for a high score with stories of how we got here. We will work together to break the cycles that you haven’t been able to identify or fix on your own. This is a targeted and effective therapy that I have spent years developing in my work with couples.
